Why Meghan?
You may be wondering how I got in touch with my nutritionist, Meghan. Or, why I asked her to be involved in the first place.
The short answer is that I liked her. She loves food; she’s friendly and has a great sense of humour. An added bonus is that she’s locally grown (living and working in Toronto).
The long answer is somewhat more complicated.
Over a year ago, a friend pointed me towards Green As A Thistle, a blog by National Post writer Vanessa Farquharson. She writes about taking small steps towards saving the environment. Occasionally, Meghan would be mentioned on the blog, or she would leave a comment.
At first, I presumed that she was just another organic-food-trend-follower who would suck all enjoyment out of eating. I read her blog and studied her website with cynical eyes and soon realized that I had totally misjudged her.
She’s enthusiastic about health. She is not aggressive in her approach, but kindly offers alternatives when I ask. She is a die-hard foodie: she loves cooking, baking, eating and enjoying the fruits of her labours.
The more I learned about nutrition and food from her site, the more confused I became in the grocery store. I decided to write about my confusion in a blog and invited her to help.
Luckily for me, she agreed.
