In Search of Junk

Well readers, my excitement is fading a bit. I’m back to my old tricks of oatmeal, fresh fruit and salad and while I am genuinely enjoying this food, I find that I’m having powerful cravings at night.

I have afternoon/evening shifts at a Toronto restaurant and so from 4 pm onwards, all I smell is beef and seafood delights. By the time I get home, I feel hungry and I crave salty, fatty food. Kind of gross, I know.

Last night, I almost crept into a pub on my way home to check out their take-out menu because I wanted food so much. I managed to get myself home and, of course, there is nothing fatty or salty in my apartment and I ended up just going to bed.  Trouble is, I have to work tonight…suggestions?

Diet Rehab is on the National Post Appetizer! Check it out at: nationalpost.com/theappetizer

Grain of the Week: MILLET is a tiny, round grain that can be white, gray, yellow or red. Like barley, it can be pearled and hulled, but it can also be cracked and this is often how it is found in cereals. Millet is a great source of phosphorous and magnesium. Phosphorus plays a roll in virtually every cell in the body. Phosphorus also helps the body to metabolise fats. A cup of cooked millet provides approximately 24.0% of the daily phosphorus needs. Plain, cooked (boiled) millet can be a bit bland--be sure to season your millet well.
