Countdown to…The Program

I knew I couldn’t enter Diet Rehab without having professional help (enter Meghan).

Part of what got me excited about the rehab program is that Meghan invited me to join her and some of her girlfriends for lunch at her place.

It was an amazing afternoon filled with stimulating conversation, lots of laughter and fantastic food!

Since I knew that Meghan had prepared everything from scratch, I knew it would be okay for me to eat everything! It was so refreshing to go to a party and not worry about how I would fill up!

I’m not sure what everything on offer was called, but I can tell you that I enjoyed two fresh salads: one was quinoa and the other was a green salad. But not a regular green salad. It was Meg-a-fied, so it was full of goodness including dried fruit and fresh apple! I also enjoyed sweet potato kugels, a spinach-pine-nut pie/omelet and a sampling of cranberry bread and carrot cake for dessert. Oh, and a tangerine since I’m heading into flu/cold season.

I get the Official Program from Meghan today, but now that I’ve sampled a few of her foods, I’m kind of excited.  I hope I’m not counting my free-range, organic chickens before they’ve hatched…

Diet Rehab is on the National Post Appetizer! Check it out at: nationalpost.com/theappetizer

Grain of the Week: MILLET is a tiny, round grain that can be white, gray, yellow or red. Like barley, it can be pearled and hulled, but it can also be cracked and this is often how it is found in cereals. Millet is a great source of phosphorous and magnesium. Phosphorus plays a roll in virtually every cell in the body. Phosphorus also helps the body to metabolise fats. A cup of cooked millet provides approximately 24.0% of the daily phosphorus needs. Plain, cooked (boiled) millet can be a bit bland--be sure to season your millet well.
